Biography
Dume: Alexander D., Theologe, berühmt als Kanzelredner und akademischer Lehrer, † 1554. Er stammte aus Edinburgh in Schottland; gleich anderen Landsleuten durch religiöse Wirren aus der Heimath verscheucht, ward er 1545 in Greifswald als Alexander Dume scotus liberalium artium magister, divi Jacobi pastor, pietate ac doctrina praestans eingeschrieben. Mit Knipstro und Magerius zwei Jahre daraus zum Doctor der Theologie promovirt, wird er im Professorenverzeichniß 1548 als theologiae doctor et professor ausgeführt. Im Sommer 1549 ging er nach Stralsund als Pastor bei St. Jacobi und vertheidigte dort den Satz, daß Hochzeiten am Sonntage nicht durch die heilige Schrift verboten seien, worüber er von Frederus und Andern angegriffen ward.
