Biography
Faust: Johannes F., lutherischer Theologe, geb. 22. Septbr. 1632 zu Straßburg, † 1. Juli 1695, bezog, nachdem er den Grund seiner Studien in der Vaterstadt gelegt, verschiedene Hochschulen Deutschlands. Zurückgekehrt wurde er Pfarrer zu Ensisheim und in Straßburg Professor, zuerst der Logik und Metaphysik, dann auch der Theologie, Decan des Thomascapitels und Inspector des Wilhelmer-Collegiums. Er schrieb eine lange Reihe meist kleinerer Dissertationen logischen und theologischen Inhaltes, aber auch ein polemisches Werk „Contra panstratiam Chamierii de sacra coena“ und deutsch den „Friedensweg“. Gleich seinem Namen-, Alters- und Amtsgenossen Isaak pflegte er im Gegensatze zum Synkretismus und Pietismus die Wittenberger Traditionen. Er starb als Rector der Universität an einem Schlagflusse.
