  • Biography

    E. gehörte jedenfalls dem Hause Nellenburg an. Er war zuerst Dompropst in Straßburg und kam 934 nach Einsiedeln, wo er die Zelle des heilig Meinrad wiederherstellte, das Kloster und die 948 geweihte Kirche erbauen ließ und mönchisches Leben einführte. Er stand dem Kloster, fürs das er 947 von König Otto I. freie Abtwahl und Immunität erhielt, als erster Abt bis zu seinem Tode vor. Mit Bischof Ulrich von Augsburg, der ihn öfters besuchte, pflegte er enge Beziehungen. Er wird als Heiliger verehrt.
