    Walther: Johann Karl Wilhelm W., Arzt, geboren am 6. Januar 1796 in Leipzig und daselbst am 3. Februar 1859 verstorben, studirte und erlangte 1820 mit der Inauguralabhandlung „De hernia crurali“ die Doctorwürde in seiner Vaterstadt. Nach mehrjähriger wissenschaftlicher Reise habilitirte er sich 1823 als Docent an der Universität, wurde 1828 Gerichtswundarzt und 1830 zusammen mit E. A. Carus, später mit C. G. Franke Director der chirurgischen Universitätspoliklinik. Walther's Tod erfolgte an Lungenschwindsucht. Er war Verfasser mehrerer Recepttaschenbücher, mit J. Radius und Mich. Jaeger Mitarbeiter an einem „Handwörterbuch der gesammten Chirurgie und Augenheilkunde“ (Leipzig 1836—40) und hat außerdem einige ausländische Schriften in deutscher Uebersetzung herausgegeben.
