Biography
Blocklant: Anthonis van B., Maler, geb. 1534 zu Montfoort, daher auch A. van Montfoort genannt, studirte 2 Jahre lang unter Fr. Floris zu Antwerpen, kehrte dann 1552 nach Montfoort zurück, verheirathete sich im 19. Jahre und begab sich von da nach Delft. Im April 1572 ging er nach Rom, kehrte aber im September dess. J. wieder zurück und schlug seinen Wohnsitz in Utrecht auf, wo er 1583 verstarb. Seine Historien sind in der manierirten Weise seines Lehrers gehalten. Im Belvedere zu Wien befindet sich von ihm ein Gemälde vom Jahre 1573, Diana mit ihren Nymphen, von Aktäon überrascht, in halb lebensgroßen Figuren, ein Bild, über das sich nicht viel Gutes sagen läßt.
