    Bavo: St. B., Patron des Bisthums Gent, dem die dortige Kathedrale geweiht ist. Ein Edelmann, auch wol Graf genannt, zur Zeit, als im Anfang des 7. Jahrhunderts St. Amandus in Flandern das Evangelium predigte, und von diesem zum Christenthum bekehrt. Erst lebte er als Einsiedler im Wald von Metmedung (Mendonk), ging aber dann in die Abtei, welche mit seiner Unterstützung durch St. Amandus in Gent gestiftet war. Hier starb er zwischen 653—55. — (De Ram. Hagiogr. nat. [11. Oct.]).
