Biography
Copus: Wilhelm C., Arzt und Humanist; geb. zu Basel, studirte in Paris Medicin, Mathematik, sowie griechische und römische Litteratur, wurde Doctor der Medicin, dann zuerst Militärarzt, später (unter Ludwig XII. und Franz I.) Leibarzt und Professor der Medicin. Er übersetzte aus dem Griechischen medicinische Werke, z. B. die des Galen und Hippocrates. Erasmus, der von C. sagte: medicinam eius opera primum loqui coepisse, zog ihn zu Rathe, als er 1526 in Basel schwer erkrankte.
