  • Biography

    Aelst: Nicolaus van A., Kupferstecher, geb. zu Brüssel 1526, † nach 1613, wahrscheinlich ein Schüler von Hieron. Cock zu Antwerpen. Er ließ sich (ob schon 1550 oder erst später, ist bestritten) zu Rom als Kunstverleger nieder und gab hier viele Stiche nach Ger. Alberti, Vesp. Strada, A. Brambilla, Ann. Carracio, Ricciavelli, Tempesta, Giulio Romano, Ghigi u. A. heraus. Ein Verzeichniß seiner Werke gibt Meyer's Künstlerlexikon. Was davon er selbst etwa auch gestochen hat, läßt sich nicht bestimmen.
