    Wigandt: Martin W., katholischer Theologe und Philosoph, aus Paderborn (nach Wappler's Angabe); trat zu Augsburg in den Dominicanerorden; später (c. 1680—83) Professor der Philosophie am Studium formale zu Landshut; seit 1688 als Doctor der Theologie Mitglied der theologischen Facultät zu Wien, 1689 auch Procurator der sächsischen Nation an der Universität (Locher, Speculum academicum Viennense, 1773, p. 286); Regens primarius am Studium generale der Dominicaner in Wien, † 1708. — In seiner theologischen und philosophischen Richtung war er ein Vertreter des reinen Thomismus. Als Philosoph verfaßte er eine Dissertation: „Lilium inter spinas seu spinoso titulo famosa Logica juxta miram ac genuinam mentem Angelici quintique Ecclesiae Doctoris D. Thomae Aquinatis“ (Landishuti 1680); und ebenfalls in Form einer Dissertation ein umfangreiches Buch: „Trinum perfectum, seu tripartita universae philosophiae iuxta miram ac genuinam Angelici ... Doctoris ... mentem per axiomata deductae et biennalis operae Synopsis“ (Augustae Vindelicorum 1683). (Pars I: Philosophia rationalis, d. h. Logik; Pars II: Philosophia naturalis seu physica; Pars III: Metaphysica aut naturalis theologia.) Sein bekanntestes Werk ist das umfangreiche moraltheologische Buch, ebenfalls von streng thomistischer und antiprobabilistischer Haltung: „Tribunal confessariorum, et ordinandorum, declinato Probabilismo; complectens ... omnes usitatiores materias theologico-morales juxta probabiliora et inconcussa dogmata Angelici Doctoris D. Thomae Aquinatis, ejusque invictissimae scholae“ (Augustae Vindelicorum 1703). Das Werk erfreute sich einst, namentlich im Dominicanerorden, eines großen Ansehens, obwohl W. wegen einzelner laxer Sätze von seinen Ordensgenossen (nach Echard) auch Tadel erfuhr; es wurde an verschiedenen Orten neu herausgegeben: Valentin 1711 (ed. 4.), Köln 1722 (ed. 5.), Venedig 1733 und 1741, Madrid 1768.
