  • Biography

    Clippeus: Balthasar C., Buchdrucker in Köln, † 1604. Sein deutscher Name war Schild; er wohnte im Hause zum Bäumchen vor St. Paulus. Er begann sein Geschäft 1600 und während seiner vierjährigen Geschäftsthätigkeit druckte er weit über fünfzig verschiedene Werke, worunter einzelne über Befestigungskunst, Mathematik, Astronomie etc. Nach seinem Tode setzte die Wittwe das Geschäft noch ein Jahr lang fort, dann kam die Druckerei an Theodor Baum und ging später an dessen Factor Konrad Büttgen über.
