Biography
Chmel: Adam Mathias Ch., Mathematiker, geb. zu Teschen 27. Aug. 1770, † zu Linz 12. März 1832, bezog 1786 die Universität Wien, wo er Philosophie, Jurisprudenz, Staatswissenschaften und Mathematik studirte. Er bekleidete die Chemie-Lehrerstelle an der mährisch-ständischen Akademie zu Olmütz von 1794—1808, worauf er als Professor der Mathematik, später der Physik am Lyceum nach Linz übersiedelte. In dem zu Brünn erscheinenden „Allgemeinen europäischen Journale" veröffentlichte er Abhandlungen über „Herstellung der Begriffe Recht und Pflicht“ (1797) und über „Logarithmische Differentialen“ (1798); außerdem ein zweibändiges Lehrbuch „Institutiones mathematicae“ (1807) und ein Programm „Ursprung und Gründung des Linzer Lyceums mit Keppler's Leben“ (1826).
