Biography
Stapf: Joseph Ambrosius St., katholischer Theologe, geboren am 15. August 1785 zu Fließ im Oberinnthale, † am 10. Januar 1844 zu Brixen. Er machte seine Studien zu Innsbruck, wurde 1821 Professor der Moraltheologie am dortigen Lyceum, 1823 Professor im Seminar, später auch Domherr zu Brixen. Als Schriftsteller bearbeitete er hauptsächlich die Moraltheologie: „Theologia moralis in compendium redacta“ (4 Bde., 1827—31, 6. Aufl. 1846); „Epitome theologiae moralis publicis praelectionibus accommodata“ (2 Bde., 1832, an allen theologischen Lehranstalten in Oesterreich als Lehrbuch eingeführt, 3. Aufl. 1863—65, von seinem Nachfolger J. V. Hofmann und nach dessen Tode [1863] von S. Aichner besorgt); „Die christliche Moral“ (4 Bde., 1840—42, 2. Aufl., von J. V. Hofmann besorgt, 1848—50); „Expositio casuum reservatorum in dioecesi Brixinensi“ (1836). Außerdem veröffentlichte St. „Erziehungslehre im Geiste der katholischen Kirche“ (1832, 4. Aufl. 1846) und anonym „Der heil. Vincenz von Paul“ (2 Bde., 1835) und „Geschichte des Alten und Neuen Testamentes für die zweiclassigen Schulen in Oesterreich“ (1840).
