Biography
Sophie, Kurfürstin von Sachsen, Tochter Kurfürsts Johann Georg von Brandenburg, geb. 6. Juni 1568, am 25. April 1582 vermählt mit Kurfürst Christian I. von Sachsen (s. d.), dem sie fünf Kinder gebar. Eifrig lutherisch gesinnt, betrieb sie nach dem frühzeitigen Tode ihres Gemahls im Verein mit den Landständen den Sturz des zu den Calvinisten neigenden Kanzlers Crell und wohnte sogar persönlich seiner Hinrichtung bei. Sie starb am 7. December 1622 auf ihrem Wittwensitz Colditz.
