    Ortlob: Johann Christoph O., geb. zu Breslau 1675, Rector der Nicolaischule und Rathsbibliothekar zu Leipzig, † 26. Nov. 1751. (Meusel, Lexik., Bd. X. S. 233.) Seine zahlreichen exegetischen Abhandlungen, welche Meusel a. a. O. aufführt, verrathen eine vorwiegende Neigung, sich mit kleinen Fragen zu beschäftigen, und dieselben im Interesse der altkirchlichen Anschauung vom A. T. zu lösen. Also z. B. weshalb sind dem Adam die Thiere vorgeführt worden (Gen. 2, 19)? Ob deshalb, damit er unter ihnen vergeblich nach einer Genossin suche und dadurch für die Weibesschöpfung vorbereitet werde? — Mit der Schlange ist nicht zugleich der Satan bestraft ("serpentem non punitum cum Satana, Gen. 3, 14. 15“, 1708 p. 26 ff.). — Das Kainszeichen war das bloße Gottesurtheil, daß Niemand den Kain tödten dürfe ("de signo Caini“ 1701); Kain will in Gen. 4, 13 sagen: „meine Sünde ist größer, als daß ich mein Angesicht erheben dürfte“ ("de Caine non desperante“ 1706). In dieser Art ist alles Uebrige.
