Biography
Nicolai: Johann N., Antiquar, 1665—1708, war in Stadt-Ilm in der Grafschaft Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt geboren, erhielt seine Bildung auf den Universitäten Jena, Helmstädt, Leipzig, Marburg und Gießen, scheint sodann an den beiden letztgenannten Orten Vorlesungen gehalten zu haben, wurde 1702 außerordentlicher Professor der Alterthumskunde in Tübingen und starb daselbst — unverheirathet — am 12. August 1708. — Von seinen überaus zahlreichen Schriften sind die bedeutenderen: „de Mercurio et Hermis" 1687; „de ritu antiquo et hodierno Bacchanaliorum" 1696; „de triumphis Romanorum" 1696; „de luctu Graecorum" 1696; „de Phyllobolia" 1698; „de nimbis deorum" 1699; „de iuramentis Ebraeorum, Graecorum, Romanorum" 1700; „Antiquitates ecclesiasticae“ 1705; „de sepulcris Ebraeorum“ 4 Bde., 1706. Aus seinem Nachlasse gab Haverkamp noch verschiedene Schriften heraus, so namentlich „de luctu Christianorum“ 1739.
