  • Biography

    B. war zunächst Kondukteur bei Bourdet, dann als Bauinspektor Gehilfe des Vaters. 1778 wurde er Oberbaurat, später Intendant und Baudirektor. Erst H. Hackmann hat in das Schaffen dieses Architekten wenigstens teilweise Licht gebracht. Danach ist jedenfalls mit Sicherheit das Schloß Bellevue in Berlin nicht, wie angenommen wurde, von seinem Bruder Georg Friedrich, sondern 1785 von B. erbaut worden. Das Schloß, ein etwas nüchterner, aber in seiner am Wörlitzer Schloß orientierten Formensprache würdiger Bau, zeigt das dem älteren Bruder überlegene Können dieses fast vergessenen Architekten.
