  • Biography

    Seit 1355 war J. Domherr in Trier. Schon 1365 wurde er von Urban V. zum Bischof von Straßburg und nach zwiespältiger Wahl in Mainz am 28.4.1371 von Gregor XI. zum Erzbischof von Mainz ernannt. Die Wahlkapitulation mit dem Mainzer Domkapitel unterzeichnete er am 5.7.1371 in Nürnberg. Erst 1372 hielt er mit Karl IV. seinen Einzug in Mainz. Am 28.3.1372 schloß er in Prag ein Schutzbündnis mit Karl IV. für Erfurt. Er war politisch unbedeutend und in seinen Bistümern unbeliebt. Angeblich starb er an den Folgen einer Vergiftung.
