Biography
Lessing: Johann Gottlieb L., der nächstjüngere Bruder Gotthold Ephraim's, geb. am 12. November 1732 zu Kamenz, anfänglich Conrector, dann Rector des Lyceums zu Chemnitz, † am 6. October 1808 (Winer, Handbuch der theologischen Litteratur II, 639). Seine „Eclogae regis Salomonis“, Lips. 1777 versuchten schon vor Herder die Hypothese zu begründen, daß das Hohelied eine Art Anthologie erotischer Lieder sei und jeglicher Einheit entbehre. Die einzelnen Idyllen, welche er reconstruirt, vergleicht er sodann mit denjenigen des Theokrit|und Vergil. — Die anderen Schriften von ihm: „Observationes in tristia Jeremiae“, Lips. 1770, und „Observationes in vaticinia Jonae et Nahumi“, Chemnitz 1780, sind ohne weitere Spuren in der Geschichte der Auslegung geblieben, so daß ihre bloße Erwähnung hier genügen wird.
