Biography
Beneke: Johann Heinrich Friedrich B., technischer Chemiker, geb. 29. Juni 1774 in Hannover, † 20. Februar 1841 in Goslar; war Besitzer einer Holzessigfabrik zu Hamburg, nachher Vitriolmeister zu Goslar, wo er 1836 die Fabrication der Schwefelsäure aus kiesigen Erzen einführte; eine auf das gleiche Verfahren gegründete Schwefelsäurefabrik legte er in England (zu Deptford) an, gründete auch eine Grünspanfabrik in Rußland.
