Biographical Presentation
Benedict von Appenzell, ein wenig bekannter Contrapunktist des 16. Jahrhunderts, der zu Appenzell geboren war, um Mitte des genannten Jahrhunderts zu Brüssel lebte, und häufig mit dem erheblich älteren Benedict Ducis verwechselt oder für eine Person gehalten worden ist. Tonstücke, welche durch Namen und Geburtsort als dem Benedict von Appenzell angehörend bezeichnet sind, finden sich nur in „Liber I ecclesiasticarum cantionum 4 voc., quae vulgo Moteta vocant, tam in veteri quam in novo Testamento, ab optimis quibusque hujus aetatis musicis compositarum“. Antwerp. Tilman Susato 1553, Venet. 1555. Hingegen gehören andere in verschiedenen Sammlungen nur unter dem Namen Benedictus vorkommende Sätze mit Sicherheit oder Wahrscheinlichkeit dem Benedict Ducis.
