  • Biography

    B. wurde 1904 Assistent am physikalischen Institut der Technischen Hochschule Karlsruhe, leitete dann eine physikalisch-technische Versuchsanstalt in Wien und erfand 1912, angeregt durch die „Titanic“-Katastrophe, das Echolot für Wasserfahrzeuge zur Messung von Meerestiefen und zum Aufspüren von Hindernissen durch Schallmessung (Österreichisches Patent 1912, Deutsches Reichspatent 1913). 1920 gründete er die B.-Echolot-Gesellschaft in Kiel, die das Verfahren immer weiter vervollkommnete. Dr. med. h. c. Kiel 1928.
