Biography
Tellkampf: Johann Dietrich Adolf T., Mathematiker, geboren am 23. Mai 1798 in Hannover, † am 9. März 1869 ebendaselbst. Kaum 16 Jahre alt, nahm T. als Osficier in der hannöverischen Armee an den Befreiungskriegen theil. Als er 1818 aus Frankreich heimkehrte, verließ er gleich vielen Anderen das Waffenhandwerk und begann in Göttingen unter Thibaut Mathematik zu studiren. Auf den Rath seines Lehrers versuchte er sich an der von der Universität gestellten Preisfrage und errang 1821 den Preis mit der Abhandlung „Historia critica variarum opinionum quae circa corporum formam fluidam aut firmam hucusque in lucem prodiere“. Von 1822 bis 1824 war T. Privatdocent in Göttingen, dann Oberlehrer am Gymnasium zu Hamm in Westfalen, seit 1835 Director der höheren Bürgerschule in Hannover. Noch von Hamm aus veröffentlichte er 1835 in Crelle's Journal Bd. XIV einen lateinisch geschriebenen Aufsatz über gewisse geometrische Substitutionen, welche zur Auffindung einiger Integrale führen. Im 2. Bd. von Grunert's Archiv löstete er dann 1842 die Aufgabe, die Anzahl der möglichen Zerlegungen eines n-ecks in m-ecke mittels Diagonalenziehung zu finden. Auch ist T. der Verfasser geschätzter Lehrbücher. Seine „Vorschule der Mathematik“ hat 1829 bis 1856 fünf Auflagen erlebt.
