    Ernesti: Johann Christoph E., der Vater von Joh. Aug. E., geboren zu Geulen im Schwarzburgischen 11. Januar 1662, † in Tennstädt 11. Aug. 1722. Seit 1682 hatte er in Wittenberg studirt und war daselbst 1686 Magister und 1689 Adjunct der philosophischen Facultät geworden. 1691 trat er in das Pfarramt, zuerst in Plaue bei Arnstadt, 1692 in Groß- und Klein-|Brüchtern, 1704 in Tennstädt, mit welcher Stelle eine Superintendentur verbunden war. 1710 erwarb er sich die theologische Doctorwürde in Wittenberg. Von seinen fünf Söhnen haben drei sich auch wissenschaftlich hervorgethan; der älteste, Johann Christian († 1770 als Superintendent in Langensalza) und der vierte, Johann Friedrich Christoph (s. unten), durch theologische Schriften. Auf diesem Gebiete ist auch der Vater fleißig gewesen und hat in verschiedenen Abhandlungen, wie „De bibliis polyglottis", „De antiquo excommunicandi ritu", „De Eusebio Pamphili“, „De dialogis doctorum veteris ecclesiae“, große Gelehrsamkeit gezeigt; andere Schriften sind mehr populär.
