    Der älteste nachweisbare Namensträger der Familie, Hans († 1564/65), stammt vom Kupelwieshof im Ultental (Südtirol), wo die Ahnen als Wirtsleute, Krämer und Bärenfänger lebten. Der Urgroßvater von Leopold (s. 1), Josef, war seit 1713 kaiserl. Jäger in Wien, dann Gehegebereiter in Meidling.
