Biographical Presentation
Bridel-Brideri: Samuel Elias v. B.-B., geb. zu Cressy im Canton Waadt den 28. Nov. 1761 (sein Vater war Prediger), † 7. Jan. 1828 in Gotha, kam schon in seiner Jugend nach Gotha, wurde daselbst Erzieher der Prinzen und nachmaligen Herzöge August und Friedrich und später geheimer Legationsrath. Er betrieb ausschließlich das Studium der Moose und leistete auf diesem Gebiete so bedeutendes, daß seine Werke noch jetzt als Fundamentalwerke der Bryologie gelten. In den Jahren 1797—1822 gab er eine Beschreibung aller damals bekannten Moose heraus, zu welchem Werke Supplemente erschienen; eine neue und verbesserte Auflage seines ersten Werkes war die 1826 bis 1827 in Leipzig erschienene „Bryologia universa“, in der er auch ein neues System der Moose aufstellte, das jedoch jetzt nicht mehr haltbar ist. Er ließ auch einen Band französischer Gedichte „Délassements poétiques“ drucken.
