Biography
Baumgärtner: Adam Friedrich Gotthelf B., geb. 15. Sept. 1759 zu Schneeberg in Sachsen, † 29. November 1843 zu Leipzig; zuerst Advocat, dann Buchhändler in Leipzig (wo er die seinen Namen tragende Verlagshandlung und das Industriecomptoir gründete), 1816 preußischer Generalconsul, 1820 geheimer Hofrath. Er schrieb: „Reisen durch einen Theil von Spanien“ (1793); einige Romane; gab heraus in Verbindung mit Hermbstädt, Seebas und Kühn u. a. „Das Magazin aller neuen Erfindungen" (1803—10); „Neues Magazin der Erfindungen“ (1811—15); mit Poppe: „Magazin der Erfindungen, neue Folge“ (1817—22); mit Hermbstädt und Leonhardi: „Magazin zur Beförderung der Industrie“ (1805—10); mit Bergk: „Museum des Wundervollen“ (1806—11).
