  • Biography

    Aus Thüringen stammende Familie (ohne Zusammenhang mit den Basler Froben), zu der auch →Georg Ludwig (1566–1645) gehört. Er war Verlagsbuchhändler in Hamburg und gab ab 1602 zahlreiche wissenschaftliche Werke, auch eigene philologische, mathematische und astronomische Schriften, heraus, unter anderem das Bildwerk „Alberti Dureri Icones sacrae“ (Originale der Holzschnitte nicht von Dürer, sondern von A. Altdorfer, ohne Ort 1604) (s. ADB VIII; Pogg. I).
