  • Biography

    K. erhielt seine künstlerische Ausbildung bei seinem Vater, anschließend 2½ Jahre bei Matthäus Meriandem Älteren in Frankfurt und 3½ Jahre bei François Poilly dem Älteren in Paris. Bei seinen Porträtstichen arbeitete er in der Art der französischen Vorbilder (Edelinck und Nanteuil) und entwickelte sich zu einem der geschicktesten und produktivsten Porträtstecher seiner Zeit. Die meisten seiner Bildnisse und Stiche gehen auf zeitgenössische Vorlagen zurück. Das Porträt des polnischen König Johann III. Sobieski (1681) ist fast lebensgroß. In Wien entstand ein Bildnis des Kaisers Joseph I. zu Pferd (1694) aus 8 Platten. Die religiösen Darstellungen, die weltlichen und religiösen Thesenblätter und die Prospektstiche wurden in K.s Verlag (in der Kapuzinergasse), bei J. Sandrart in Nürnberg sowie bei F. Poilly und H. Weyen in Paris herausgegeben.
