  • Biography

    Aus Homburg in der Pfalz stammend wurde B. 1441 in Erfurt Bakkalaureus und 1444 Magister Artium. 1457 wurde er als derzeitiger Vizerektor der Erfurter Universität nach Lübeck als Ratssyndikus berufen. Bei seinem Ableben räumte er Lübeck das Vorkaufsrecht an seiner umfangreichen Handschriftensammlung ein, die darauf von der Stadt übernommen wurde. Neben juristischen und theologischen Handschriften enthielt sie auch klassische Autoren wie Ovid, Virgil, Euklid und Priscianus, daneben eine bedeutsame Briefsammlung. Der Inhalt seiner Bibliothek weist B. als ersten bekannten Humanisten in Lübeck aus.
