    Biel: Johann Christian B., geb. zu Braunschweig 1687, † daselbst 18. October 1745; studirte 1707—10 in Leipzig, nach einer Reise durch Mittel- und Norddeutschland 1711—12 in Rostock und endlich noch ein Jahr in Helmstädt Theologie. Nach einer Reise durch Holland und England ließ er sich in Braunschweig nieder, ward 1719 Adjunctus ministerii und 1723 Pastor zu St. Ulrich und St. Johannes. Unter seinen Schriften (s. Adelung), die außer einigen aus dem Englischen übersetzten Predigten meistens biblisch archäologischen Inhaltes sind, ist der nach seinem Tode von Mutzenbecher herausgegebene „Novus thesaurus philolog. s. lexicon in LXX et alios Interpretes et scriptores apocryphos V. T.“ (Haag 1779—80) die wichtigste. In der Vorrede zugleich biogr. Nachrichten über den Verfasser.
