Biography
Coccius: Ernst Adolf C., Augenarzt und Universitätsprofessor der Augenheilkunde in Leipzig, hier am 24. November 1890 gestorben, wurde am 19. September 1825 in Knauthain bei Leipzig geboren. Seine Studien machte C. in Leipzig, Prag und Paris und wurde 1848 Dr. med. mit der Dissertation „De morbis typhum sequentibus“. Hierauf wandte sich C. ausschließlich der Augenheilkunde zu. Von 1849—57"als Assistent von Ritterich in Leipzig sowie als Docent thätig, erlangte C. 1857 die außerordentliche, 1867 die ordentliche Professur, die er bis zu seinem Lebensende bekleidete. Seine zahlreichen Arbeiten betreffen — abgesehen von der erwähnten Inauguralabhandlung — fast ausschließlich verschiedene Abschnitte aus dem Gebiet der Augenheilkunde und sind dem Inhalt nach in der unten genannten Quelle angegeben.
